The Scrap Yard Internationals are delighted to announce that another 16U athlete has committed to a university to further her education and continue her softball journey! Catcher and infielder Morgan Wright has verbally committed to Iowa State University and will begin school in the Fall of 2019! Morgan currently attends Obra D. Tompkins High School in Katy, TX and maintains a 3.41 GPA. She plays for the OTHS Falcons under head coach Katy Agiannidis.

Morgan has always been a special player and was eager to make this decision about her academic and athletic future. Morgan said, “I’m blessed to have this opportunity and I’m excited to be a part of the Cyclone family and play Division 1 softball for Coach Pinkerton and his staff at Iowa State University! ISU is a beautiful campus with all the amenities a college student could want or desire! While playing softball at Iowa State, I will get the wonderful opportunity to play some of the top programs in D1 Softball and travel to many different states in the process! I get to attend a Big XII school with high academic standards ensuring I will get a quality education and play the game I love…it’s a win-win for me! I am looking forward to wearing the cardinal red and gold with pride! Go Cyclones!”

Head Coach Connie May has had the opportunity to coach Morgan over the past few years, and has seen nothing but growth and continued commitment from the versatile athlete. When asked about Morgan’s commitment to Iowa State, Connie said, “Morgan is a very powerful kid with a great attitude every time she steps on the field. Since day one at the Scrap Yard, she has been a true gamer, and her passion and love for the game has made her a leader on our team and as asset on the field. She is the first athlete from our program to attend Iowa State, and we could not be more proud!”

Morgan’s parents have nothing but positive things to say about their daughter’s decision to take her talents up north. Her mother and father, Henry and Surina Wright, said, “Good things come to those who are patient and willing to go through the recruitment process!  We are thankful to every positive person that influenced our daughter, Morgan Wright.  Morgan has developed into a phenomenal young lady and athlete.

As members of the Scrap Yard Internationals we want to say, “thank you” to Connie May and the entire Scrapyard International coaching staff.  The love, support and respect you have shown and continue to show the players and parents is unwavering.  We want to give a special thank you to a few coaches that saw something special within Morgan from a very young age.  Coach Tommy Colonnetta, Coach Paul McGary, and the person that helped Morgan become a power hitter and improve her catching skills, Coach Michelle McBride!  Thank you all for challenging, believing in and encouraging our Morgan to always do her best on and off the field!  She was listening and paying attention because she has morphed into a truly a great student athlete!

We are excited about the next chapter in Morgan’s life, her college life.  When we went to visit the campus, and attend Coach Pinkerton’s softball camp, we were very pleased with the campus, the facilities, the coaches, the university as a whole!  We know Morgan will do great at Iowa State University!  Coach Pink will take the ISU Softball Program to new heights and we look forward to enjoying that journey!  We know our Morgan will be in excellent hands!  Big XII she’s coming! Iowa State University, Go Cyclones!”

Congratulations to Morgan and the Wright family!
